Minutes of Meeting for Thursday 18th May 2017 - Gipsy Queen P.H.

Present:        Hilary Percival (Chairperson), Philip Sandall (Secretary), Jim Parks (Treasurer), Keith Percival, David Pollard
Apologies:    Claire Percival, Jan Rapetti

Meeting Opened - The Chairperson opened the meeting at 1939 welcoming all present.

1.    Minutes of last meeting and matters arising

1a   Heather Ayling Memorial Garden (Interpretation Board) – JPa reported there was no further news or information regarding the supply of the board. It was agreed JPa would chase this item and advise members.

1b   Accounts – No new bank statement received, the Chairperson advised that as she would be drawing a cheque on the account this should trigger a statement. She could also ask about statements at the same time as paying in the cheque.

2.    Volunteer Workdays - 16 adults and 2 children attended the April workday, our usual group of volunteers boosted by a local litter picking group. In addition to a park wide litter pick, volunteers sowed several packets of bee friendly flower seeds and attended to some bramble control. For the April workday and subject to availability the main task will be the installation of the revised Heather Ayling Memorial Garden Interpretation Board. Other tasks suggested include tree planting and bramble and weed control in the woodland area. JPa advised he will try to visit the site ahead of the workday to prepare ground.

3.    Outdoor Gym – nothing new to add.

4.    Park Furniture - JPa advised nothing new was forthcoming from council sources. He did suggest that it might be possible to obtain some suitable recycled plastic seating planks that would allow us to overhaul the park benches. All agreed this would be an appropriate way forward - JPa to investigate further. Flora and fauna interpretation board -  KPe advised the meeting that Mike Kemp (Groundwork Solent) has completed the digital re-imagining of the board, details of which, KPe had previously circulated. As agreed at the March meeting, KPe had approached Allspeed Signs and Graphics Ltd for a quote to reproduce the board in Dibond (a rigid, durable aluminum composite material). A second quote from Beta Print (Gosport) had proved considerably cheaper, the latter subsequently approved by members who further agreed that KPe should continue to liaise with MKe to process this item. The meeting was also happy with proposed quote for MKe’s time on this project.

5.    Fun Sports Day - Unfortunately the weather had prevented this event from going ahead. By way of consolation the event manager had raised a small sum from the attendant raffle. The Secretary advised that he had made several useful contacts at the event which would be followed up for ParkFest 17.

6.    A.O.B

6a  Scooters on the park - DPo advised that this remained a problem, DPo and his wife both sighting and reporting these incidents. The Secretary added he had also reported a number of youths seen riding a min quad bike at high speed around the park. While police/PCSO’s advise they are looking into this issue there has been no obvious sign of their presence to date.

6b  My Pop Rocks - Music: The Secretary had spoken to Chris Harris (St Vincent 6FC) and had agreed to visit the college to link with music students at a rehearsal. The Secretary had also contacted Martin Barret (Monkey Butlars/PA supply) to discuss both this and ParkFest events - MBa responding that he was away on 18th June and Monkey Butlars had a booking on 23rd September. All agreed that we contact MKe to request he provide the PA for both events. Face Painting: Lizzy Parker remains interested in attending My Pop Rocks and happy that attendance less than ParkFest.

6c  ParkFest 17 - Inflatables/children’s rides: The Secretary reported that he had contacted South Coast Bungee Trampolines to learn that a long standing booking prevented their support this year. At the Fitness Fun Day he had been approached by John Reilly (Kids Party Mascots) who were very interested in getting involved with us once again. JRe has subsequently provided a number of photographs of their resources. In addition the Secretary had also spoken to representatives of YServices (Play Rangers) who were also very interested in attending but would need to look at their finances before committing. The Fun Day had also provided contact with a candy floss vendor who the Secretary has booked for ParkFest.

6d  Gosport in Bloom - the park is due to be judged on 5th July at 1300.6e Heritage Open Days - The Chairperson was in possession of the application form and wished to check availability of volunteers for proposed park involvement.
